The PMS VTS Family reunion is next week. In honor of that, I thought I would put quotes about families/parenting/etc.
Your job as a parent is to gradually transfer responsibility for your children's lives from you to them, as they show readiness.
We need to learn to take our love to our family and our frustration to the Lord, rather than the other way around.
Even slight modifications in parent-child relations can produce remarkable changes in the home.
Remember-- you have 100% control of your 50% of any relationship.

MISSIONARY NEWS
Kieren in Brazil-This was a great week. Renata got baptized!!!!!! Woohoo!!!! It was a beautiful day. She is one chic lady. She got new highlights this week and to accompany the simple white baptismal suit she wore peach stilettos up until the moment of the baptism, a nice touch I thought. I got to play the violin and give a spiritual thought. Izabel, her less active mom, came and loved it! She even gave the opening prayer. I just love those two.
Stay strong and never give up. When we are least expecting it, Heavenly Father will always surprise us with a miracle. When we are diligent, the miracles happen in ways that we least expect.
1. Renata´s Baptism2. With S. Kirk and S. Cummings (tbt CTM) at Parque Moinhos de Vento
3. Rua Gonçalves de Carvalho, the most beautiful street in the world (according to some google searches.)
Cameron in California--So this week was okay. We got our standard of contacts everyday and my Spanish is getting better... slowly.... anyways, it has been a lot of fun.
We got to help set up for, and then go to, a birthday party for one of the
member familys that we work with a lot. We also got to eat Polynesian
food on Sunday, I am still trying to find breadfruit.
It has been really hot the last week or so, and way more humid then I like it, but life goes on.
We had a few really good lessons this week, and it is looking like this
next week will be even better. Hope everyone back home is doing well.
FAMILY UPDATES
BIG news of the week (My Mom would say) from Rachel Thomas Hyatt--
Rachel had her baby....
Greg got to bless Clara on his first Father's Day. My parents and two of Greg's brothers were able to be in town for the event.
My mom made a beautiful blessing dress with tatted lace for me as a baby. So I always imagined the dress my daughter would one day have. My mom and mother-in-law both helped create the design I had in my head. My mother-in-law sewed and embroidered the dress. My mom smocked the dress, helped me tat, and sewed the lace in as an insert. The dress was stunning! It looked so professional, no one would believe it was hand-made.
Clara was absolutely silent during the blessing, but the day couldn't go that smoothly... just as sacrament meeting ended she had a huge blowout all over the dress, and all over her poor Uncle Matt! But never fear. We rinsed out the dress and put her in the cold and wet dress to finish out church. She only gets to wear the dress for one day, ya know!
We got great pics of the event. See how beautiful the dress is? Thanks Mom!

Cara writes, Baseball is over. Liam had such an amazingly awesome season!
He mostly played 2nd base and outfield- though was able to pitch one inning
(in which he was awesome...3 strikeouts in 4 at-bats). He was the lead-off batter, which basically means he almost always got a good hit and got on base.
His team was pretty impressive and ended up being undefeated.
The championship game was super long and full of drama- the first inning
took over an hour, and after 2 1/2 hours, they had only completed 3 innings.
It was past 11pm, so the game was postponed for the next day- which ended
up being postponed again because of torrential rain. We finally were able to finish
the game, which they won by quite a bit (the mercy rule went into effect).
They played a great game and had a great party afterward. :) Way to go Liam!
ps- I loved the comments the coach gave about Liam- he talked about how
hard-working and dedicated he was. He said, "He's the littlest kid on the team but
he swung the bat expecting to smash the heck out of that ball!" Sounds like my Liam!

Katie--Emmeline always wants to eat popsicles outside, sitting on one of these chairs. She'll just sit there silently and relaxed and slowly eat the popsicle. It's so cute.

She loves, loves, LOVES riding her bike.

Connor FINISHED his intern year of residency! This month he had a geriatrics rotation (2 weeks), inpatient rotation (1 week), and sports medicine rotation (1 week). He actually didn't get to do his sports medicine rotation because he ended up having to cover inpatient for a few extra days for somebody. But overall, he's just glad to be done with first year. We had an FMR banquet and graduation this past week to celebrate the end of the year. The banquet was a really fun event—all the residents, staff, and their spouses got together. We had a nice catered dinner, and then they had awards and videos. (Each class and the staff made a funny video, basically making fun of various things.) Connor’s class had a pretty funny video, and the 2nd year class made a hilarious parody of Let it Go. Good times.

Stuart has had some bad news...May 30 I sat in my office and wondered if I had ever had a PSA test. (I know, strange thing to wonder about) Since my office is directly across the street from the doctor's office, I walked across the street to ask them to look at my chart to see if I had ever had the test. The answer was no, would you like to schedule an appointment to get one ?
So on Monday June 2nd I took Shar to the airport to go see Kelli (new grandson was born June 4th) then back to the appointment.
When I got back home from work on Tuesday the 3rd the answering machine had a message from my urologist (carry over from kidney stones) " this is my personal cell phone number - call me as soon as you get this message. We need to talk.
My PSA score (which should be between 0 and 3.0) was a 54
We met, a bunch of other tests, scans and a biopsy were scheduled.
The biopsy showed conclusively that I did have cancer. On a 1-10 scale I was a 9. All the scans showed positive results - so far, all is contained in the prostate.
So now we wait for the Tuesday appointment in Seattle with the specialist.
Carol's note: Keep him in your prayers please!
