6 September 2015

You must make an effort to appreciate what you have, who loves you and who cares for you, because you'll never know how much they mean to you until the day they are no longer beside you. Spend lots of quality time with the people you love. Someday you will either regret not doing so, or you will say, I'm glad I did....
Nobody on their deathbed has ever said "I wish I had spent more time at the office".

It is only when we truly know and understand that we have a limited time on earth – and that we have no way of knowing when our time is up – that we will begin to live each day to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.”– Elizabeth Kubler-Ross

BIG NEWS

1- (again, missed this last time, so it is a bit dated. SORRY!!)
Sami and Cameron Ouimette both got their drivers licenses!  Who is more excited?  the kids? or Karen who doesn't have to drive/shuttle them around any more!2- my daughter, Allie got married the beginning of August. (more on that below.)

Editors note:  You notice a theme at the beginning--the quotes. Take time now to appreciate those you love.  Let them know you love them.  And make an effort to value every day you have with those you love.  You never know what will happen tomorrow.  Any changes you want/need to make in your life, do them now.  Don't procrastinate.  Tomorrow may be too late.

We have a wonderful family in our ward.  Parents in their mid-thirtys.  They have four children, age 9 and under.  The parents are terrific.  Dad coaches the teams the boys are on and both parents spend quality and quantity time with the kids.    They teach their children
the gospel of Jesus Christ, and to serve by example, etc.  The Dad is a big time runner and athlete.  While the family was on vacation at the beach,  he was out running and suffered cardiac arrest.  He has been in a coma for a week and has no brain function.   The poor wife is handling it all so well.  She is praying for and receiving peace. (
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. )
We are also still praying for a miracle.  We've seen it happen (in another young couple in our ward....) Everytime I think of them, I am so sad.  She is too young to have to deal with this.
Give your loved ones a hug. Let them know what they mean to you.

FAMILY UPDATES

Cara--
A month or two ago, Liam approached me and asked if I would give him a hundred dollars if he would go without candy for a year.  I said sure.  Wanting to make it tangible, he made a paper chain.  Awesome.

Hallie's Birthday Party--She wanted a balloon cake, which was fun and easy to make.  Hyrum scored big time when the big kids (who had eaten too many snacks) couldn't finish their cake and ice cream. Everyone offered it to him.
He was one happy camper! (And no, he did not finish all that...thank goodness!)
Happy birthday Hallie!

Lissa--

FDNY celebrated 100 years this spring and had a bunch of open houses at all the fire houses around the city.  Conveniently, we have a fire station just 2 block away, so we took the boys over to check it out during their open house on May 2.  They got to go in the fire engines, see the firefighters gear, etc.  We even saw them get a call and rush off while we were there! [SP: It was really fun. We all got plastic fireman hats and snacks].

On May 9 we went on a family field trip to see the Intrepid.  It is little boy heaven with all the planes, helicopters, etc.  We even got to ride on the aircraft elevator and learn how they moved around aircraft on the ship. [SP: The Intrepid is an awesome museum. In the summer they show movies outdoors on the flight deck. We're going to make it to one of them at some point.]

On May 29 we went on another preschool field trip to the Brooklyn Bridge Park.  It is a great park, all along the East River, with a lot going on. [SP: I was lucky enough to go on this field trip as well. There are beautiful views of Manhattan from Brooklyn. (Probably the best thing about Brooklyn, if you ask me....]

Katie--
Emmeline got her 5-year-old pictures taken. We were originally going to do family pictures too, but Connor was busy with an OB patient, so we just did Emmeline’s. It was nice because we had time in the shoot for Emmeline to do an outfit change, so we got some pictures of her in her school uniform. Adorable! Emmeline started kindergarten this month! She’s in half-day kindergarten at a nearby charter school.

Emmeline and I got back from a 2-week vacation to Virginia. We had so much fun. The timing worked out well because Connor was on a nights rotation for most of our trip. The main purpose of our trip was to be there for  Allie’s wedding, but we did lots of other fun things as well.

Emmeline and I went over to the Hidden Pond nature center one morning. We walked around outside and inside the nature center, played at the playground, and went to a little class about bugs. It was so beautiful there and fun to see a different kind of nature than we usually do in Las Vegas.

National Gallery of Art—Emmeline and I went with my sister Molly on Metro to go to the National Gallery of Art in DC. Emmeline has been really looking forward to this ever since we planned our trip to Virginia. We’ve read lots of books about different artists, so it was fun for her to go and see some art she’s seen in books. While we were riding on Metro on the way there, Emmeline wanted to sit by Molly and said, "The two artists get to sit together!" (She's really proud that she is good at art like Molly.)
We hung out with my sister Natalie’s family a lot.  My whole family celebrated Truman’s birthday together and went to Natalie's neighborhood pool.  Emmeline also got to play with Addie a lot during the trip and had so much fun. They got along better and better as the trip went on, and Emmeline was really sad to say goodbye at the end.

Carol- While Katie was here, we spent a lot of time together as a whole family.  It was great!
One day, most of the family went to the National Zoo.  Saw many animals including the Pandas.
Allie's wedding to Steve Andrews went off without a hitch.  Allie was so happy!  The reception was quite a party. The DJ played fabulous music and everyone danced the night away.  Allie invited families including children, so the wedding and reception was full of young, energetic (and well behaved) little souls.  The memories are priceless.

I think that is all the updates.  If I forgot something (again), please just kindly let me know.  I'll grab it next time.

Remember who you are.  Remember what is most important to you and cherish that/them.

Work hard, study hard, pray hard.

Carol
